Just done this quick fix, thought I would share my findings.
The problem: your hazards or left, or right indicators aren't working (perhaps intermittently, or not at all, but check the fuse first).

The problem: your hazards or left, or right indicators aren't working (perhaps intermittently, or not at all, but check the fuse first).
The solution:
- Remove the fuse cover panel under the steering wheel.
- Locate the hazard / indicator relay. This is below the steering wheel, just to the right hand side. If either your hazards/indicators work, turn them on and the relay will tick, helping you locate it.
- Push the relay and relay base firmly upwards to dislodge it from its neighbor. It's a black relay on a black base.
- Pull the relay off its base and go indoors, fire up the soldering iron.
- Remove the cover of the relay by pushing 2 thin screwdrivers into either side where the clips are.
- With the cover removed, you can see the circuit. Along one edge there are 7 soldered contacts which go to the spade terminals on the outside of the relay
- These joints are dry joints! The higher than normal resistance has caused a heat build up that has melted the plastic along this edge! The resistance also causes a voltage drop which means the circuit doesn't function properly.
- Unsolder all the contacts, and remove the old solder using a solder sucker
- Lay some nice new solder on. It's hard to get a neat joint because the spades are so huge and act as big heat sinks! You need a fairly decent soldering iron (I only have a crap one, so my joints look crap)
- Once resoldered, re-assemble the relay and put it back in the car.
- Enjoy parking illegally again .
